No The New York Times online o artigo de opinião The Case for Filth, de 7 de novembro, é sobre o trabalho doméstico e o problema da divisão entre homens e mulheres. Olha-se para o assunto sobre várias óticas, e parece que a situação não se tem vindo a alterar significativamente, pelo menos para as realidades cobertas. Uma ilustração:

A recent, large cross-national study on the subject by an Ohio State sociologist found that “women’s housework did not decline significantly and men’s housework did not increase significantly after the mid-1980s in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.” In the United States, men’s participation in housework topped out at 94 minutes at day in 1998, but by 2003 was down to 81 minutes, not much different than the 76 minutes it was in 1985. Interessante no artigo é o questionamento sobre os indicadores a utilizar para avaliar o trabalho doméstico: porque há o visível, por exemplo, lavar a loiça, mas há o outro menos perceptível, como será o do planeamento e a responsabilidade de que as coisas aconteçam naquele espaço familiar, e o investimento emocional.

Por outro lado, no artigo é observado que os bancos querem contratar cada vez mais mulheres, mas não é claro se o número de casais em que é o homem fica em casa está a levar à generalização de igualdade de género, ou se estamos somente face a pequenas mudanças.
